Feed-in Tariff payment process

Payments to generators who are registered on the Feed-in Tariff are managed by energy suppliers within a process called the levelisation process.

This is how it works;

  • Good Energy collects meter readings from generators
    You send us meter readings once a quarter, by around the 20th of March, June, September and December. Good Energy will try to request a meter reading from you, but you should send us a meter reading even if you don’t hear from us. You can check these dates in the table below.
  • Good Energy submits payment claim to OFGEM
    As payments under the Feed-in Tariff are made from a central fund managed by OFGEM, Good Energy needs to submit a claim on behalf of our FIT generators to receive payments from the fund.
  • OFGEM pays Good Energy
    Once all payment claims have been received, OFGEM invoices the energy suppliers for their contribution into the fund. Energy suppliers pay into the fund in proportion to the amount of electricity that they supplied. Once these payments are received from the energy suppliers, OFGEM then pays each FIT licensee the payment amount they have claimed on behalf of their FIT generators. This is done around 6 weeks after the end of each quarter.
  • Good Energy pays generators
    Once Good Energy receives payment from OFGEM we then process and pay the relevant amount to each FIT generator by bank transfer. If you are an existing generator and haven't yet given us your bank details for payment, please download and return this form to us as soon as possible. If we don't have your bank details it could delay the processing of your payments.

FIT payment FAQs

Why does it take so long for me to receive my payment?

As a small supplier, Good Energy cannot make payments to generators until we have received payment from OFGEM from the levelisation fund. We try to process payments as quickly as we can once we have received the money from OFGEM.

When can I submit my FIT readings?

You can submit a FIT meter reading at any time - you don't need to wait for a reminder from Good Energy. We will use the most recent meter reading from you to submit your FIT payment claim. You can submit a FIT reading online here.

I sent in my application months ago and haven't been asked for a meter reading yet.  Why is this?

You will only be asked for a meter reading if you have been registered on the Feed-in Tariff by OFGEM. If you haven't received your letter confirming that your generator has been registered, this means that there are still outstanding queries on your application which have prevented it from being registered yet.  

As soon as you receive confirmation that you have been registered for FIT, we will start sending meter reading requests to you each quarter. However, you will still receive FIT payments from the eligibility date stated on your application, as any payments accrued will be paid when you submit your first meter reading.

It may also be possible that you’re not receiving our email requests for some other reason, so you should send us your FIT meter reading before the end of each quarter even if you haven’t heard from us.
